Athlete Highlight: Ben Robinson
Congratulations to Ben Robinson, our athlete highlight this month! Ben is a 16-year-old at Wayland High School who plays football and is also a sprinter on the trackteam. Ben came to The Micheli Center in January 2016 to work on issues with his running gait – he had a tendency to turn his feet out while he ran – and he also wanted to start strength and conditioning training in order to prepare for football camps and combines. Ben’s Injury Prevention Specialist, Sara Collins, explained to him that addressing these issues would not only decrease his risk for injuries, but also allow him to improve his agility and speed. Given the physical nature of football, Ben also recognized the risk for injury to his hips and knees if his body was not aligned correctly.
When talking about his trainer, Sara Collins, Ben said, “I have worked with her since starting at The Micheli Center. Sara has helped me enormously with my flexibility, mobility, strength, and posture. Before I started seeing Sara, my lower body was extremely tight. I had a very small range of motion and I wasn’t using the proper muscles or form when working out at the gym. Since working with her, all these areas have improved… I now can do flexibility and mobility exercises that I couldn’t do when we first started and since I am now lifting using the proper form, I am engaging all the proper muscles.”
Ben feels that he has improved physically and believes he will be able to apply what Sara has taught him as part of his everyday workout routine, explaining, “I feel like Sara has helped me to be a smarter athlete both on and off the field.”
Ben, thank you for all of your hard work! We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors, and we hope that you will continue to work with us here at The Micheli Center!
